DartPoints: High-Performance Edge Colocation and Cloud Solutions
DartPoints provides high-performance edge colocation, cloud, and connectivity solutions to regional markets, empowering enterprises with local, low-latency infrastructure.
Overview
DartPoints is a leading provider of edge data center solutions, specializing in colocation, cloud, and connectivity services designed specifically for regional markets. Founded with the mission to decentralize the internet, the company focuses on bringing high-performance infrastructure to Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities across the United States. By deploying a distributed network of data centers, DartPoints enables organizations to process data closer to the end-user, reducing latency and improving the performance of mission-critical applications.
The company’s portfolio is built around three core pillars: Colocation, Cloud, and Connectivity. Their colocation services provide secure, scalable environments for hardware, while their cloud offerings include private, public, and hybrid configurations tailored to specific regulatory and performance requirements. In terms of connectivity, DartPoints operates as a carrier-neutral provider, hosting a diverse ecosystem of network operators to ensure maximum uptime and competitive pricing for their clients.
DartPoints has expanded its footprint significantly through both organic growth and strategic acquisitions, such as the purchase of Metro Data Centers and Immedion. These moves have solidified their presence in the Midwest and Southeast, catering to a diverse clientele that includes healthcare providers, financial institutions, government agencies, and educational organizations. As the demand for edge computing grows—driven by the rise of 5G, AI, and remote work—DartPoints is positioned as a critical infrastructure layer for the decentralized digital economy.
Positioning
DartPoints positions itself as the "Edge Specialist," strategically occupying the space between local boutique providers and global data center giants. Their marketing and brand strategy emphasize the democratization of technology, highlighting their ability to deliver "Tier 1 capabilities with a Tier 2 feel." They target mid-market enterprises and regional service providers who require sophisticated infrastructure but prefer a partner who understands their specific geographic and economic landscape.
Compared to national providers like Equinix or Digital Realty, DartPoints differentiates by focusing on markets these giants ignore. Their messaging centers on the "Power of the Edge," focusing on the tangible business outcomes of low latency and local data sovereignty. They position their facilities not just as data centers, but as regional interconnection hubs that serve as the "digital town square" for the communities they inhabit. This community-centric positioning allows them to build deep moats in their selected markets, becoming the de facto standard for local interconnection and a trusted advisor for regional IT leaders who value proximity and specialized local knowledge.
Differentiation
The DartPoints product suite is engineered to solve the "middle mile" challenge, providing a seamless bridge between local data generation and global cloud ecosystems. Their primary differentiator is their Edge Interconnection platform, which brings the performance of a major carrier hotel into Tier 2 and Tier 3 markets. By establishing these regional hubs, they enable significantly lower latency for real-time applications like AI, IoT, and high-frequency content delivery.
Key technical advantages include:
- Bridge to the Cloud: Their hybrid cloud solutions allow businesses to maintain sensitive data on-premise or in a private local cloud while maintaining high-speed on-ramps to hyperscalers like AWS and Azure.
- Resilient Infrastructure: Despite being in smaller markets, their facilities meet rigorous Tier III standards, offering redundant power, cooling, and carrier-neutral connectivity that often exceeds what is locally available.
- Integrated Managed Services: Beyond basic colocation, DartPoints offers a sophisticated layer of managed services, including Disaster Recovery as a Service (DRaaS), managed security, and cloud backup, all managed from a single pane of glass.
- Carrier Neutrality: They maintain an aggressive stance on carrier neutrality, fostering a competitive marketplace within their facilities that drives down connectivity costs for regional tenants. This "Meet-Me-Room" sophistication in regional markets is a significant technical hurdle for competitors to replicate.
Ideal Customer Profile
The ideal DartPoints customer is a mid-market to enterprise-level organization that requires high-performance infrastructure outside of the traditional "Big 6" data center markets (like Northern Virginia or Silicon Valley). These companies typically operate in industries such as healthcare, finance, or manufacturing, where data proximity and low latency are critical. They often have a hybrid IT strategy, needing both physical rack space for legacy systems and high-speed connectivity to public clouds. From a technical maturity standpoint, they have an established IT team but value the "Remote Hands" and managed services that allow them to manage distributed infrastructure without having staff full-time at every regional location. Budget-wise, they are looking for enterprise-grade reliability (Tier III standards) but with the personalized service and regional focus of a specialized provider.
Best Fit
- Edge Computing Requirements: Organizations needing to process data closer to the end-user to reduce latency and improve application performance.
- Regional Business Hubs: Companies operating in Tier 2 and Tier 3 markets (like the Southeast or Midwest US) that require enterprise-grade colocation without the overhead of major metro data centers.
- Hybrid Cloud Strategy: Businesses looking for a bridge between on-premises hardware and public cloud providers, utilizing DartPoints as a connectivity hub.
- Disaster Recovery: Firms requiring geographically diverse backup sites that are far enough from primary hubs to ensure safety but close enough for high-speed replication.
Offerings
- Colocation: Flexible options ranging from single cabinets to private cages and custom-built suites, featuring redundant power and cooling.
- Cloud Services: Hosted private cloud, multi-tenant public cloud, and cloud storage solutions tailored for performance-sensitive workloads.
- Managed Services: Comprehensive infrastructure management, including backup, disaster recovery, and security monitoring.
- Interconnection: Access to the DartPoints "Internet Ecosystem," providing carrier-neutral connectivity, peering exchanges, and direct cloud on-ramps.
- Edge Units: Deployable modular data center solutions for ultra-local processing needs in specific geographic locations.
