Databarracks: Resilient Backup and Disaster Recovery Solutions
Databarracks provides managed backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity services to mid-market and enterprise firms via a high-touch, expert-led model.
Overview
Databarracks is a specialized provider of data protection and business continuity services, established in 2003 as one of the UK’s first managed backup providers. Headquartered in London, the company has grown from a pioneer in online backup to a comprehensive resilience partner for mid-market and enterprise organizations globally. Their core mission is to ensure that businesses remain operational regardless of the nature of the disruption, whether it be a hardware failure, a natural disaster, or a sophisticated cyberattack.
The company’s service portfolio is centered on three main pillars: Managed Backup, Disaster Recovery as a Service (DRaaS), and Public Cloud Management (specializing in AWS and Azure). Databarracks operates its own secure, sovereign data centers while also maintaining deep partnerships with major technology vendors. This hybrid approach allows them to support complex legacy environments alongside modern, cloud-native architectures.
Historically, Databarracks has served a diverse range of sectors, with a particularly strong presence in legal, financial services, and the public sector—industries where data integrity and regulatory compliance are non-negotiable. Their evolution has tracked the shift from simple data storage to complex cyber-resilience, positioning them as a critical partner in an era of increasing ransomware threats. By combining technical infrastructure with strategic continuity consultancy, Databarracks addresses both the IT and the human elements of business survival.
Positioning
Databarracks positions itself as the "Expert Partner" in a market often split between low-cost, unmanaged commodity storage and prohibitively expensive high-end enterprise consulting. Their strategic positioning is built on the "Managed Resilience" concept, targeting organizations that have outgrown basic backup tools but lack the internal resources to manage a complex, 24/7 disaster recovery operation.
In their messaging, Databarracks emphasizes "Confidence" and "Certainty." They differentiate themselves from competitors by highlighting their hands-on involvement; while many vendors provide the "plumbing" for data movement, Databarracks provides the "engineers" who ensure the water flows when needed. Their brand is associated with reliability and deep technical competence, often using the phrase "The Business Continuity Experts" to signal their holistic approach.
Compared to hyperscalers like AWS or Azure, Databarracks positions itself as a more accessible, specialized layer that adds value through governance, proactive testing, and personalized support. Against other MSPs, they leverage their long-standing history and singular focus on continuity to claim a "specialist" status over "generalist" IT providers. Their messaging effectively bridges the gap between the IT department and the boardroom, translating technical recovery metrics into business risk mitigation.
Differentiation
The primary differentiator of Databarracks’ product suite is the integration of enterprise-grade technology—such as Zerto, Veeam, and Asigra—with a proprietary management and monitoring layer. This "Best-of-Breed" approach allows them to tailor technical solutions to specific RPOs and RTOs while maintaining a unified service experience.
Key technical advantages include:
- Managed DRaaS: Unlike standard cloud replication, Databarracks provides a fully managed Disaster Recovery as a Service (DRaaS) that includes regular, assisted testing and a "runbook" approach to failover.
- Cyber Resilience: Their solutions are increasingly focused on the "Cyber Recovery" gap, offering immutable backups and isolated recovery environments (air-gapping) specifically designed to combat ransomware.
- Hybrid Cloud Expertise: They offer seamless protection across on-premises infrastructure, public clouds (AWS/Azure), and their own secure private cloud.
- Performance Guarantees: Their products are backed by robust Service Level Agreements (SLAs) that focus on recovery outcomes rather than just infrastructure uptime.
By focusing on the "Recovery" part of Backup & Recovery, their products are engineered to be functional during high-stress events, featuring automated orchestration and simplified one-click failover capabilities that reduce the risk of human error during a crisis.

Use Cases
- Scenario 1: Ransomware Recovery for a Law Firm: A mid-sized law firm suffers a total network lockout. Using Databarracks' Cyber Recovery vault, they restore their entire document management system from an immutable copy, bypassing the attackers' demands and resuming operations within 4 hours.
- Scenario 2: Hybrid Cloud Migration for Manufacturing: A manufacturer moving to Azure uses Databarracks to protect their remaining on-premise ERP while simultaneously backing up their new cloud-native workloads, managing the entire estate through a single pane of glass.
- Scenario 3: Regulatory Compliance for Finance: A boutique investment bank uses Databarracks' managed testing to provide quarterly proof of 'Operational Resilience' to the FCA, documenting their ability to recover critical trading platforms within defined RTOs.
- Scenario 4: Site Failure for Retail: A retail chain experiences a fire at their primary data center. Databarracks engineers execute the pre-written runbook, spinning up the client's infrastructure in the Databarracks cloud and redirecting traffic so online orders can continue.
Pricing Models
- Subscription-Based: Typically billed as a monthly recurring cost (MRC) based on protected data volume (per TB) and the number of protected instances (VMs/Servers).
- Reservation vs. Consumption: For DRaaS, pricing often includes a 'reservation fee' for the standby compute resources and a 'consumption fee' triggered only during a disaster invocation or extended testing.
- Tiered Service Levels: Pricing varies based on the required RTO/RPO. Near-zero RPO (continuous data protection) commands a premium over standard daily backup schedules.
- Included Services: Unlike many 'self-service' cloud providers, Databarracks pricing usually bundles the cost of managed setup, regular testing, and 24/7 support into the core service.
- No Egress Surprises: They typically offer predictable pricing models that avoid the complex data egress fees often associated with direct public cloud storage.
