Transform Your Enterprise Infrastructure with NTT Communications
NTT Communications provides global integrated ICT solutions, including cloud, network, and security services, helping enterprises accelerate digital transformation.
Overview
NTT Communications (NTT Com) is a global leader in information and communication technology (ICT) solutions and a subsidiary of the NTT Group, one of the world’s largest telecommunications companies. Headquartered in Tokyo, Japan, the company provides a comprehensive suite of managed services including cloud computing, data center services, security, voice and video communications, and global network services. With a presence in over 190 countries and regions, NTT Com serves as a backbone for global digital infrastructure, catering primarily to large-scale enterprises, government agencies, and multinational corporations.
The company’s history is rooted in the liberalization of the Japanese telecommunications market, evolving from a domestic carrier into a global powerhouse. Today, NTT Com focuses on driving "Digital Transformation" (DX) for its clients. Its core business revolves around the "Smart Data Platform," which enables businesses to utilize their data effectively and securely. Their market presence is particularly strong in the Asia-Pacific region, though they maintain a significant footprint in Europe and the Americas through their extensive data center network and Tier-1 IP backbone. By integrating advanced technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), and Software-Defined Networking (SDN), NTT Communications helps organizations navigate the complexities of a hybrid-cloud world while ensuring high levels of reliability and security.
Positioning
NTT Communications positions itself as the "Digital Transformation Partner" for the global enterprise. Their strategic positioning is built on the pillars of reliability, global reach, and technological innovation. Unlike specialized SaaS vendors or niche network providers, NTT Com occupies the "Full-Stack Infrastructure" space, messaging themselves as a one-stop-shop for the entire ICT lifecycle—from the physical fiber under the ocean to the AI-driven analytics at the application layer.
Their target market consists of high-stakes industries where downtime is not an option, such as finance, manufacturing, and healthcare. In their messaging, they emphasize "Smart World" initiatives, positioning their technology as the engine behind smart cities, autonomous factories, and sustainable energy grids. They differentiate from competitors like AT&T or Verizon by highlighting their superior connectivity into the Asian markets and their massive investment in R&D. Compared to cloud hyperscalers like AWS, NTT Com positions itself as a neutral orchestrator that provides the secure "connective tissue" between multiple clouds and legacy systems. Their brand is synonymous with "Japanese Quality" (Monozukuri), emphasizing precision, long-term stability, and a commitment to excellence that appeals to risk-averse C-suite executives looking for a stable foundation for their digital initiatives.
Differentiation
NTT Communications’ product portfolio is distinguished by its seamless integration of physical infrastructure with software-defined intelligence. A primary differentiator is their Global Tier-1 IP Backbone, which provides unparalleled network performance and reach, coupled with their "Flexible Interconnect" platform. This platform allows for secure, high-speed connections between various cloud services (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and on-premises environments through a single software-defined portal, significantly reducing complexity for hybrid-cloud architectures.
Technically, NTT Com leads in the development of "Smart Data Platforms" (SDPF). These platforms go beyond simple storage to provide a full suite of data collection, integration, and analysis tools designed specifically for industrial and enterprise IoT. Their security offerings are also a major differentiator, utilizing global threat intelligence gathered from their massive network backbone to provide proactive, AI-driven defense mechanisms. Additionally, they are pioneers in the "IOWN" (Innovative Optical and Wireless Network) initiative, which aims to revolutionize communications infrastructure through all-photonics networks, promising drastically lower power consumption and ultra-low latency that competitors are still years away from matching. By controlling both the "pipes" (the fiber and data centers) and the "brains" (the SD-WAN and AI platforms), NTT Com offers a holistic technical stack that is difficult for pure-play software or hardware vendors to replicate.

Pricing Models
Pricing with NTT Communications is typically customized and contract-based, influenced by the following factors:
- Service Type: Connectivity (MPLS/Internet) is usually priced per Mbps/Gbps, while Cloud/Data Center services use a mix of reserved and consumption-based models.
- Contract Term: Significant discounts are available for 3-year or 5-year commitments compared to annual renewals.
- Geographic Scope: Costs vary by region, with competitive pricing in APAC but potentially higher premiums for last-mile access in remote regions.
- Managed Services Tier: Pricing scales based on the level of intervention required (e.g., "Monitor only" vs. "Full Management").
- One-time Costs: Installation fees, hardware procurement, and initial professional services for design and migration.
- Billing: Unified global billing is available, allowing multi-national companies to pay in a single currency or via regional entities.
Technical Requirements
To deploy NTT Communications solutions, the following technical foundations are required:
- Premises Access: For physical connectivity, customers must provide adequate rack space, power, and cooling for NTT-managed CPE (Customer Premises Equipment).
- Network Compatibility: Existing LAN environments should support standard Ethernet handoffs; legacy protocols may require mediation.
- Virtualization Support: For software-defined services, on-premises servers should support major hypervisors (ESXi, KVM) if running virtualized network functions (VNFs).
- Browser Standards: Access to management portals requires modern web browsers (Chrome, Edge, Firefox) with JavaScript enabled.
- IP Addressing: Organizations must coordinate with NTT on IPv4/IPv6 addressing schemes, especially for global MPLS or SD-WAN deployments.
Business Requirements
To successfully partner with NTT Communications, organizations should prepare the following:
- Strategic Roadmap: A clear 3-5 year vision for digital transformation, as NTT’s solutions are best utilized as long-term strategic foundations rather than quick tactical fixes.
- Cross-Functional Stakeholders: Buy-in from IT, Finance, and Security teams, as NTT’s services often impact the entire enterprise architecture.
- Process Readiness: Internal workflows for incident management and change requests must be aligned with NTT’s managed services framework.
- Technical Liaison: At least one dedicated technical lead to manage the relationship and oversee complex architectural decisions during the transition.
- Training Commitment: Willingness to invest in staff training for NTT’s management portals (like the Business Portal) to ensure autonomous monitoring and reporting.
Implementation Timeline
A typical enterprise-scale implementation follows this timeline:
- Discovery & Design (4-6 weeks): Detailed assessment of current infrastructure, traffic patterns, and business requirements, resulting in a signed High-Level Design (HLD).
- Site Preparation & Procurement (4-8 weeks): Ordering of hardware, securing data center space, and coordinating with local carriers for last-mile connectivity.
- Configuration & Setup (2-4 weeks): Core network provisioning, security policy definition, and initial cloud interconnect setup.
- Migration & Testing (4-12 weeks): Phased migration of workloads or branch offices. This varies significantly based on the number of global sites and data volume.
- Training & Go-Live (2 weeks): Handover to the operations team, final user training, and formal transition to 'Run' phase.
- Total Timeline: Generally ranges from 4 to 9 months for full global deployments.
