Sakon: Simplify Enterprise Telecom and Mobility Management
Sakon provides a global enterprise platform for Telecom Expense Management and Managed Mobility Services, helping large organizations simplify complex connectivity.
Overview
Sakon is a leading provider of Telecom Expense Management (TEM), Managed Mobility Services (MMS), and Cloud Expense Management solutions. Founded in 2003 and headquartered in Concord, Massachusetts, the company has evolved from a boutique consultancy into a global technology powerhouse. Sakon’s mission is to help large enterprises simplify the management of their complex communications ecosystems, which have become increasingly fragmented with the rise of remote work, IoT, and multi-cloud environments.
The company serves a prestigious clientele, including several Fortune 500 and Global 2000 organizations across industries such as financial services, healthcare, manufacturing, and retail. Sakon’s core offering is its integrated platform that provides end-to-end visibility into connectivity spend and usage. This includes managing the lifecycle of mobile devices, auditing and paying telecom invoices, and optimizing network configurations to reduce costs and improve performance.
Sakon’s market presence is bolstered by its strategic partnerships with major carriers and system integrators. Over the past two decades, the company has established a reputation for successfully executing large-scale digital transformations, particularly for organizations migrating from legacy MPLS networks to SD-WAN or managing massive fleets of mobile devices. With a global delivery model and deep domain expertise, Sakon focuses on turning connectivity from a complex overhead expense into a strategic asset that drives employee productivity and business agility.
Positioning
Sakon positions itself as the "Connective Tissue" of the modern enterprise. In a market often crowded by legacy TEM providers focused on backward-looking audits, Sakon differentiates its brand by focusing on "The Future of Work" and digital transformation. Their messaging centers on three core pillars: Visibility, Control, and Transformation.
The company targets the "High-Complexity Enterprise"—organizations with massive global footprints, tens of thousands of employees, and a mix of legacy and modern communication technologies. Sakon’s competitive positioning strategy is built on being the most "ServiceNow-friendly" partner in the space. By positioning their platform as a natural extension of a company’s existing IT Service Management (ITSM) investment, they lower the barrier to entry and increase perceived value for CIOs and IT Directors.
Unlike commodity-focused competitors who compete primarily on price, Sakon positions itself as a premium, value-driven partner. Their brand voice is sophisticated and forward-thinking, emphasizing that managing connectivity is no longer just about saving money on a phone bill, but about ensuring the enterprise is agile enough to compete in a mobile-first, cloud-centric world. They successfully bridge the gap between the Procurement/Finance departments (focused on savings) and the IT/Operations departments (focused on performance and user experience).
Differentiation
Sakon’s product suite is built on a unified, cloud-native architecture designed to handle the scale and complexity of Global 2000 enterprises. A key differentiator is its "Network First" approach to Telecom Expense Management (TEM). While many competitors focus solely on invoice processing, Sakon integrates network inventory management with financial workflows, providing a "living" record of every circuit, device, and service across the globe.
Key technical advantages include:
- Sakon Mobile: A comprehensive Managed Mobility Services (MMS) solution that automates the entire device lifecycle—from procurement and staging to repair and recycling—integrated directly into ServiceNow or other ITSM platforms.
- Advanced API Framework: Sakon features a robust integration layer that connects seamlessly with HRIS, ERP, and ITSM systems, ensuring that connectivity data is never siloed.
- Global Reach & Localization: The platform is purpose-built for international operations, supporting multi-currency, multi-language, and complex global tax structures that are often a hurdle for regional players.
- Self-Service Portal: Sakon provides an intuitive employee portal that reduces IT ticket volume by allowing users to manage their own device upgrades, plan changes, and troubleshooting within corporate policy.
By centralizing fixed wireline, mobile, and cloud communications into a single pane of glass, Sakon eliminates the need for disparate tools and provides actionable insights through its advanced analytics engine, which uses machine learning to identify optimization opportunities and anomalies in real-time.
Ideal Customer Profile
The ideal Sakon customer is an Upper-Midmarket to Fortune 500 Enterprise with significant complexity in their communications infrastructure. They typically manage over $5M in annual telecom/cloud spend or have a mobile fleet exceeding 2,500 devices. They operate in highly regulated or global industries such as Healthcare, Financial Services, Manufacturing, or Retail. These organizations often have decentralized billing, are undergoing a major network transformation (like SD-WAN or UCaaS), and use ServiceNow as their primary IT Service Management tool. They value automation and data-driven decision-making over manual spreadsheet management.
Best Fit
- Global Multi-Carrier Environments: Sakon excels for enterprises managing complex, multi-national telecom footprints with hundreds of different carriers and billing formats.
- Mobile-First Workforces: For organizations with a high volume of corporate-owned or BYOD devices that require automated lifecycle management—from procurement to decommissioning.
- Cloud Cost Governance: When a business needs to bridge the gap between traditional telecom spend and modern SaaS/Cloud (AWS, Azure) expenses within a single pane of glass.
- Digital Transformation Initiatives: Ideal for companies migrating from legacy MPLS to SD-WAN or transitioning to UCaaS (Microsoft Teams, Zoom), where inventory visibility is critical for the transition.
Offerings
- Sakon Mobile: A comprehensive solution for MMS, including procurement, logistics, and lifecycle management for corporate and BYOD devices.
- Sakon Network: The TEM-focused offering that manages fixed-line telecom, internet, and wide-area network (WAN) expenses and inventory.
- Sakon Cloud: Tools for managing and optimizing SaaS licenses and public cloud (IaaS) consumption.
- Sakon Services: Professional and managed services ranging from one-time audits and carrier contract negotiations to ongoing "BPO" (Business Process Outsourcing) for telecom operations.
