VelocityEHS: Simplify ESG and Workplace Safety Compliance
VelocityEHS provides a comprehensive, AI-driven EHS and ESG software platform that helps global enterprises manage risk, ensure compliance, and improve safety performance.
Overview
VelocityEHS is a leading global provider of cloud-based Environmental, Health, Safety (EHS), and Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) software. Headquartered in Chicago, the company has grown through a combination of organic innovation and strategic acquisitions to become one of the most trusted names in the compliance and risk management space. Their mission is to help companies reach their safety and sustainability goals through technology that is easy to use and quick to implement.
The company serves over 18,000 customers worldwide, spanning diverse industries such as manufacturing, food and beverage, pharmaceuticals, energy, and mining. Their comprehensive suite of solutions includes modules for incident management, chemical management (SDS), industrial hygiene, ergonomics, environmental compliance, and ESG reporting.
VelocityEHS has played a pivotal role in the digital transformation of the EHS industry. Historically, the market was fragmented across point solutions for specific tasks like SDS management or injury logging. VelocityEHS was among the first to successfully consolidate these functions into a unified, scalable platform. Today, they are positioned as a "Visionary" in the market, focusing heavily on the intersection of EHS and ESG, recognizing that safety performance is a critical component of broader corporate sustainability and governance. Their scale allows them to support small-to-medium enterprises while providing the robust security and global localization required by Fortune 1000 organizations.
Positioning
VelocityEHS positions itself as the "intelligent" alternative to legacy EHS software. Their strategic messaging focuses on the transition from "reactive compliance" to "proactive risk management." While many competitors market themselves on the breadth of their feature checklists, VelocityEHS leans into the depth and sophistication of their specific modules—particularly in technical areas like ergonomics and chemical safety.
Their brand positioning is built around three pillars:
- Simplicity and Speed: Messaging emphasizes "EHS at your fingertips," highlighting quick implementation times and an intuitive interface that drives high frontline adoption.
- Expertise-Led Technology: They position their software as "built by EHS experts for EHS experts," contrasting themselves with generic "platform-play" vendors who may lack deep domain knowledge in safety science.
- Predictive Capability: VelocityEHS differentiates itself by moving the conversation from "what happened" to "what will happen," positioning their AI capabilities as a way to achieve "Zero Incidents."
In the competitive landscape, they occupy the high-ground between affordable but limited point solutions and overly complex, expensive enterprise resource planning (ERP) safety modules. They target organizations that have outgrown spreadsheets and manual processes and are looking for a sophisticated, enterprise-grade solution that remains user-friendly for the average employee.
Differentiation
The VelocityEHS Accelerate Platform stands out for its deep integration of Artificial Intelligence and machine learning specifically tuned for EHS use cases. A primary differentiator is their proprietary ActiveEHS methodology, which uses predictive analytics to identify risks before they lead to incidents. While many platforms act as digital filing cabinets for compliance data, VelocityEHS focuses on proactive intervention.
Key technical advantages include:
- Advanced Ergonomics: Utilizing AI-driven sensorless motion capture technology, allowing users to perform complex ergonomic assessments using a standard smartphone camera.
- Chemical Management: They possess one of the world’s largest databases of Safety Data Sheets (SDS), providing unmatched automated chemical indexing and regulatory cross-referencing.
- Industrial Hygiene: A sophisticated module that integrates laboratory data and sampling plans directly into the risk management workflow, a feature often missing in broader EHS suites.
- Operational Risk: The platform bridges the gap between traditional safety (slips, trips, falls) and complex operational risks like MOC (Management of Change) and PTW (Permit to Work).
The user interface is designed for high adoption in rugged environments, featuring offline mobile capabilities that ensure data is captured at the point of activity, which is critical for the integrity of leading indicators.

Pricing Models
VelocityEHS typically utilizes an annual subscription-based pricing model. Key cost drivers include:
- Module Selection: Pricing is modular; companies pay only for the functional areas they need (e.g., just Chemical Management or the full EHS suite).
- Organizational Size: Pricing is often scaled based on employee count, number of sites, or total revenue.
- User Types: While many modules allow unlimited users to encourage a safety culture, some administrative or "power user" seats may be tiered.
- Implementation Fees: One-time costs for configuration, data migration, and professional services.
- Data Storage: Standard packages include generous storage, but high-volume video or document storage may incur additional costs.
Note: VelocityEHS does not typically publish a public price list; custom quotes are required based on a needs assessment.
Technical Requirements
VelocityEHS is a cloud-native SaaS platform, minimizing the need for on-premise infrastructure. Requirements include:
- Web Browsers: Latest versions of Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Mozilla Firefox, or Safari.
- Mobile Devices: iOS or Android devices for the mobile app (requires a minimum OS version, typically the last two major releases).
- Connectivity: High-speed internet for web access; the mobile app supports offline data entry with synchronization once a connection is re-established.
- Email: Access to a corporate email system for automated notifications and workflow alerts.
- PDF Reader: Required for viewing and printing Safety Data Sheets and generated reports.
Business Requirements
To successfully implement VelocityEHS, organizations should meet the following prerequisites:
- Executive Sponsorship: Strong buy-in from EHS leadership and Operations is critical, as the platform often requires changing how frontline workers report data.
- Data Readiness: Organizations should have a clear understanding of their current EHS data structures, including locations, employee hierarchies, and existing SDS inventories.
- Process Standardization: While the software is configurable, it is most effective when the organization is willing to standardize EHS processes across different sites or business units.
- Dedicated Project Lead: A designated "System Admin" or EHS Manager should lead the implementation to act as the internal subject matter expert.
- Change Management: A plan for training frontline workers on mobile data entry is essential to ensure high adoption rates and data integrity.
Implementation Timeline
A typical VelocityEHS implementation follows a phased approach over 3 to 6 months:
- Phase 1: Discovery & Planning (Weeks 1-4): Defining business requirements, mapping organizational hierarchy, and identifying key KPIs for reporting.
- Phase 2: Configuration & Setup (Weeks 5-10): Tailoring the environment, setting up user roles, configuring forms/checklists, and establishing automated workflows.
- Phase 3: Migration & Integration (Weeks 8-12): Uploading existing SDS libraries, migrating historical incident data, and establishing API connections with HRIS or ERP systems.
- Phase 4: Training & UAT (Weeks 11-14): User Acceptance Testing (UAT) followed by "Train-the-Trainer" sessions and end-user onboarding.
- Phase 5: Go-Live & Optimization (Week 16+): System launch followed by post-go-live support and performance tuning.
Timeline factors include the number of modules purchased and the cleanliness of legacy data.
